Giant pipes used to import thousands of tonnes of shingle are dismantled in Southsea

Huge pipes used to import thousands of tonnes of shingle onto the beach in Southsea have been dismantled ahead of the next phase of works.

Earlier this week the Southsea Coastal Scheme team closed the beach to the west of South Parade Pier so they could begin the work to network of pipes used to import shingle onto the beach.

This is part of the works to double to size of the beach along the area from the Pyramids up to the Coffee Cup in Eastney.

The recent works have focused on the areas either side of South Parade Pier, but will move further east in the new year, with the pipes now stacked ready for the next phase.
