34 epic photos of people braving the cold Solent waters for GAFIRS New Year's Day swim

Hardy swimmers have braved the cold Solent waters this morning for the annual Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service’s New Year’s Day dip.

Hundreds of people have dived head first into 2026 with the annual charity dip in Gosport to raise money for the volunteer-operated rescue service.

From full blown fancy dress to comical swimming costumes, people certainly pulled out the stops for the event following last year’s cancellation due to poor weather conditions.

GAFIRS, based in Gosport, operates lifeboats covering the stretch of the Solent from Portsmouth Harbour to Titchfield Haven, with all donations made today going back into the service.
