We will be publishing the entries of the winners and runners-up in each category in The News in the run-up to Christmas.

As well as the thrill of seeing their stories in print and recorded for The News website at portsmouth.co.uk, the two category winners will each get £50 to spend at The Hayling Island Bookshop.

To enter, all you have to do is write a ghost story of no more than 1,000 words with a Christmas theme.

Then e-mail it to [email protected], send it via the Share Your Story link on the home page of portsmouth.co.uk or post it to: Christmas Ghost Story Competition, Features Department, The News, 1000 Lakeside, North Harbour, Portsmouth PO6 3EN.

Please include full name, address, age and a daytime phone number.

Entries close at midnight on December 14, 2014.
