Flood alert issued for Havant as heavy rain and large waves forecast

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain and strong winds between 1pm and 11.59pm today (November 9) across the region. 

While the Environment Agency have now issued an amber flood alert for Langstone to Emsworth Harbour.

The warning means that flooding is possible '“ and residents are warned to be prepared.

Hour by hour forecast as heavy rain and 50mph winds to batter Portsmouth

The Environment Agency said: '˜In the early hours of Saturday morning; 00:15 (10/11/2018) tide levels will be higher than normal with strong southerly force 8 winds and large waves.

'˜This alert is issued as a precautionary measure, aimed at ensuring property in Langstone High Street still has flood protection installed.

'˜The forecast tide at Portsmouth is 5.11 metres Chart Datum (2.38mAOD) but could peak at 5.2 metres Chart Datum (2.48 mAOD).

'˜This means levels will be between 0.1 and 0.2m lower than on Wednesday morning, but wave heights are larger and winds could increase to gale force 9 later this evening.

'˜At high tide, impacts will be minor, with water levels fairly high and near to property at the harbour front.

'˜Road flooding is not expected. At Emsworth Mill Pond, small amounts of spray could affect the promenade if winds increase to gale force 9. After this tide no further impacts are expected. We continue to monitor forecasts.

'˜This message will be removed on 10/11/2018 at 10:00.'

The Met Office issued the yellow weather warning for the Portsmouth area yesterday (November 8) and warned residents here is what to expect: 

- A few homes and businesses flooded

- Spray and flooding on roads will make journey times longer

- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport expected

- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges

- Some short term loss of power and other services

- Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves
