Gardening ace receives top award nomination

A 12-YEAR-OLD green-fingered pupil is in the running to win a coveted national gardening award.

Dylan Ayling, of Cams Hill School in Fareham, has been shortlisted in the 11-14 age category for this year’s Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) school gardener of the year.

The former Wicor Primary School pupil was a member of the school’s garden club for more than seven years and has now set up a gardening club at Cams Hill.

He is also now responsible for the school’s recycling and weekly composting.

Cams Hill teacher Louise Moreton said: ‘Dylan is a leading light, and we look forward to seeing his horticultural journey progress.

‘He is always gardening in his free time as well, and tells us about how he is improving his own garden and planning crop rotation.’

As a finalist, Dylan will create a five-minute video showcasing his passion for gardening and the work he’s done in the school.

The winner will be judged by a panel of gardening experts later this month.
