Golden days: Carved their niche in history
It was a momentous decision for George Day, the man who brought 28,000 new jobs to Portsmouth, to take a half day off from delivering chalk to marry the love of his life, Dorothy.
Mr and Mrs Day celebrated their golden wedding with a dinner for about 250 friends at Clarence Pier Pavilion.
The couple started a family business before eventually becoming lord mayor and lady mayoress of Portsmouth for two years.
