Gosport murder probe: Car removed from home as forensics officers scour bungalow

MURDER investigators have been scouring the home of a family for clues after a man was found dead.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder after police were called to the 54-year-old man's death in Southcroft Road, Gosport, on Monday at 5.30pm.

Detectives were yesterday going door-to-door in the quiet road in Gosport and its neighbouring streets.

Officers were maintaining a cordon outside a detached bungalow, which backs on to a footpath running alongside Ann's Hill Cemetery.

Hampshire police said it was an '˜isolated incident'.

Pictures show a shattered rear patio window pane in the bungalow's back garden.

Late yesterday afternoon a Boarhunt recovery specialist removed a blue Skoda from the driveway at the detached white-walled bungalow.

Nearby resident Wioletta Szmigielska, 35, of Kingston Road '“ which is opposite the house '“ said she was '˜scared'.

She said: '˜I was just scared when I heard. Then I worry about my family.

'˜I haven't seen anything like this before here, it's a very  quiet area.'

Neighbours said the couple who lived at the cordoned-off home were hardworking but they kept to themselves.

People living nearby were only alerted to the incident when police arrived on Monday.

Nearby resident Susan Orchard, 58, of Kingston Road, said: '˜It's dreadful, we've lived here for 30 years and it's the first time we've had a murder around here.'

Her husband David, 67, said the family at the bungalow were not well known.

Mr Orchard said: '˜They're quiet, they keep themselves to themselves. They really don't talk a lot.

An elderly man living on the road, who asked not to be named, said: '˜The man had a partner who had done a lot of work to the bungalow.

'˜They were quite quiet and kept to themselves but seemed to be very hardworking.'

Last night the 16-year-old boy arrested was still being questioned by police.

Next-of-kin have been informed but he has not yet been formally identified. Specialist officers are supporting the man's family after his sudden death.
