Government reveals the Royal Navy's new First Sea Lord

A NEW head of the Royal Navy has been announced.

Vice Admiral Sir Philip Jones will be promoted to Admiral and will take over the role of First Sea Lord in April.

He will replace Admiral Sir George Zambellas as the Senior Service’s new chief.

VAdm Jones is currently the fleet commander and deputy chief of naval staff, following a promotion to Vice Admiral in 2011.

Born in Bebington, Cheshire, he joined the navy in 1978.

He married to his wife Liz and has three children.
