The early-years workshop, at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, gave a group of youngsters the opportunity to paint a large-scale piece of art.

Together the children – aged five and under – created a giant painting inspired by the work of Cornish coastal painter Christopher Wood.

They played with different materials, exploring the detail of the Cornish coastline, and imagining stories and adventures at sea.

Staff at Pallant House Gallery said the workshop allowed children to create in a dynamic and engaging way.

The event came after the launch of the gallery’s major summer exhibition, Christopher Wood: Sophisticated Primitive.

The exhibition celebrates the life and art of the artist, who died aged 29.

Christopher is famous for his ‘faux-naive’ style paintings of the south coast.

The exhibition runs until Sunday, October 2, along with a number of other workshops at the gallery this month. Visit pallant.org.uk.
