Sheila Peacock, a resident of Sea Front, said: ‘These are all brick-built structures with no space in between. If they are built along the shore we shall not be able to see the sea at all.’

The proposed huts were to be built either side of a 16ft-wide wartime pillbox.

Peter Lukas, who had just moved to Sea Front, said: ‘We were not shown any plans for these huts, which we term “the Berlin wall”.’

The builder involved, John Derban, the chairman of Havant council, said: ‘I am in a very delicate position – as a builder and a councillor.

The new huts are lower than the old ones and I cannot see how these people are losing their amenities.’
