A spokesman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue said: ‘It looks like the fire spread to both the ground floor and the first floor.

‘The building suffered 100 per cent damage to the ground floor and 70 per cent damage to the first floor.

‘We had the stop message come through at 10.34, so the fire is now out – the electricity board are currently on the scene and the fire investigation team will be on hand later on today.

‘One female was inside the house when the call was made – she got herself out of the building, unharmed, and confirmed that there was nobody else inside.’

A spokeswoman from the Lee-on-the-Solent Community Centre in Twyford Drive said: ‘The fire was right next to us when it broke out, which was rather scary.

‘The fire crews kept it under control, so we weren’t evacuated at the time.’
