Unsung heroes will be honoured at special event taking place at the soon-to-be-opened Royal Marines Experience on November 21

Who is the man or boy in your life who deserves a little bit of appreciation?

That is the challenge being set as nominations open for this year’s International Men's Day Appreciation Awards run by Dadzclub in Portsmouth.

The event is taking place on Saturday, November 21 and at an exciting new venue - what will be the recently opened Royal Marines Experience at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

And it will be an even more special occasion as this year marks the 10th anniversary of Dadzclub. The community organisation and social network was set up in Portsmouth by Matt Foster to support fathers, father figures and their children.

The awards cover a number of categories including mental health and wellbeing, community and inclusion and overcoming adversity. There will also be awards for unsung hero, veterans, inspiring young male and the Dadzclub Parenting Award.

Matt said: ‘Somewhere in your connections is a man whose story deserves to be told. We're looking for those unsung heroes who make a real difference in our communities. The dads, volunteers, colleagues, friends and everyday men who go above and beyond, often without any recognition.’

This year's event will raise funds for a dedicated Men's Mental Health Worker at The Forge, The Parenting Network’s community hub in Fratton. The Network includes the Dadz Club as one of the many services it supports for families in the region.

Matt added: ‘Celebrating men matters, but being there for them when they're struggling matters just as much. Holding this year’s event at the Royal Marines Experience means not only will our guests be supporting a great cause but they will be among the very first members of the public to experience this brand-new attraction. What a setting for celebrating some remarkable men!’

Nominations close on November 1 and only take a few minutes to fill in. To celebrate the special man or boy in your life go to the Dadz Club awards page where you will find the nomination form.
