Gosport Borough Council and Gosport Older Persons Forum have produced a what’s on guide so older residents can find something that suits their interests.

It is all about having fun, being connected to the community and perhaps trying something different and making new friends.

Councillor John Beavis is Gosport’s older people champion.

He said: ‘This is the third year of Older Persons Month in Gosport.

‘It’s an eventful month to mark several special days all dedicated to celebrating older people, including the UN International Day of Older Persons, UK Older People’s Day and Silver Sunday.

‘The council has worked closely with Gosport Older Persons Forum to produce a guide to what’s on.

‘Activities and events put on by local organisations and groups are listed in the guide and there is something for everyone.

‘The aim of Older Persons Month is to encourage older people to get out and about– to have fun, be connected to the community, and perhaps try something different or make new friends.’

If you want to find out more about services for older people, and how to keep warm and well this winter, make sure you get to the free Joint 55+ Info Fest and Winter Warmth Event.

It returns to Thorngate Hall on Friday October, 21, from 10am to 3pm, and there are free refreshments too.

The event, run by the council and Gosport Older Persons Forum, will have even more organisations represented, all providing information and advice.
