Havant Borough Council is offering this service on April 2 and 3 from 9.30am-4pm at The Plaza, Civic Centre Road in Havant.

Microchipping involves a tiny computer chip being implanted into the dog, with a specific identification number, that can be read with a scanner to identify your pet throughout its life.

The chips help to reunite lost dogs with their owners.

It will be compulsory from April 6.

If a dog has not been microchipped by this date, owners are given 21 further days to do this.

After then, owners with dogs that are not microchipped or have not given correct contact details, will face a fine of £500 and a criminal conviction.

Councillor Tony Briggs, cabinet lead for environment and neighbourhood 
quality said: ‘This is a free service and one I urge all our dog owners in the borough to take up.’
