‘Spinnaker is well known for its spirit of fun and friendship, as well as its amazing singing,’ she said.

‘I feel proud and privileged to be part of the team.’

When she’s not singing Jill is also vice-chair of governors at Chichester University, an organiser of the Chichester Festival and volunteers at Ford open prison, near Arundel.

If that wasn’t enough to keep her busy she also writes under the nom-de-plume Jill King.

Retiring Spinnaker President Maggi McEwan, pictured left with Jill Cook, right, at the AGM, previously held the post for nine years and will continue singing bass with the chorus.

Maggi is also currently team co-ordinator with the Sweet Adeline’s regional management team.

Spinnakerettes are all looking forward to competing in the annual Sweet Adeline’s’ region 31 convention, at the fabulous Sage Gateshead on May 7. Spinnaker took fifth place at this event in 2015 after receiving their highest score to date of 602 points.

This year, with John Palmer at the helm, rehearsals are under way, costumes are being designed and prepared, notes, choreography and sequins are once again being polished to perfection.

Spinnaker Chorus will be fourth to perform on the day and will be singing a wonderful new ballad and a rather fun and entertaining ‘up tune’ for the judges.

We are eager and determined to improve on last year’s score and bring home another shiny medal to add to our collection.

n Spinnaker Chorus meets every Wednesday 7.30pm-10pm at The Blendworth Church Centre, Blendworth Lane, Horndean PO8 0AA.
