But the beloved family pet turned up unexpectedly 35 miles away in Essex when he landed on a member of the public.
Lucy Saw, 34, who lets Bertie out of his cage during the day, said magpies had chased the terrified parrot away while he was resting in a tree.

Hide AdThe mum to Joshua, eight, said: “I do not agree with keeping birds in cages so I let him out a lot, he even ended up in my airing cupboard the other day – so when we realised he had gone, we ran down the road.
“He was at the top of this tree having such a good time sitting and talking. “But I don’t think he knew how to get down, because he was used to staying indoors.
