CHERYL GIBBS: You just can't ever rely on the great British weather

The great British weather never fails to amaze me.

All last week, while I was confined to a stuffy hot office, the sun was shining.

I could see the sun through the office windows in Southampton, but could do nothing but look forward to the glorious bank holiday weekend.

That was my first mistake, because the bank holiday was a washout.

Disappointed doesn’t quite cover it – I was livid.

You see, I go to the gym during my lunch breaks at work because I think it’s a good way to spend an hour of down time as opposed to walking around the city shops spending money I don’t have.

But it does mean that I literally don’t get any sunshine or fresh air all week.

As you can imagine, the weekends are pretty precious – especially bank holidays.

So picture my disappointment when I arranged a family get-together at The Red Lion pub in Horndean on Saturday.

The idea was that we would all sit in the garden and chill out.

But it didn’t quite turn out the way that we’d planned.

We actually spent the whole day inside the pub, the kids were frustrated because they wanted to play and the adults (i.e me) were annoyed because of the sun’s non-appearance.

Sunday was spent indoors again because of the rain and Monday was pretty much the same.

But guess what? The sun finally decided to make an appearance again on Tuesday when I was back at work.

It’s been bloomin’ glorious ever since and quite frankly I’m starting to take the whole thing rather personally.

But whatever the weather decides to do this weekend, I know I’m going to have a good time.

I plan to have a fantastic Saturday night because it’s the Kingston family’s annual get-together and we’re all going to the Portchester AFC club for a proper shindig.

I can’t wait. It’s been a while since we’ve all been in the same room.

There are quite a lot of them, hence the need to hire a hall.

But they sure know how to have a good time. Bring it on – bad weather or not!

POP CONCERT IS A GREAT WAY FOR STARS TO PAY RESPECTS

I think it’s great what is happening this Sunday in Manchester – a whole heap of pop stars including Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber are performing in Manchester to raise funds for the families of victims of the Manchester Arena bombing.

There’s been so much talk since then about what should be done to combat these kind of things happening in the future.

Ariana herself has come under fire for allegedly ‘not doing enough’, despite offering to pay all the funeral costs of the 22 victims.

My question would be ‘what can she do?’ What happened wasn’t her fault.

But the concert is a really nice way for some of the world’s biggest artists to pay their respects to those who died in such an awful way.

SAD TO HEAR ANOTHER SHOWBIZ MARRIAGE IS BITING THE DUST

It was announced this week that Ben Stiller and his wife Christine Taylor are getting a divorce, 17 years after tying the knot.

What a shame. I love Ben and if you’re unsure who his wife is, she’s a fellow actor and has appeared in several movies and TV shows.

For me, she’s best-known playing alongside her hubby in Dodgeball, which has got to be one of the funniest films.

Ben plays two characters, a ‘goodie’ and a ‘baddie’, and is equally funny as both.

His wife plays his love interest in the movie and it’s genuinely one of those good, fun films that you can watch without too much thought.

The couple have two children together and apparently are parting as ‘friends.’

But I still find it sad that another showbiz marriage is biting the dust.
