Americans - Kanye please not vote West in as president | Cheryl Gibbs

Kim Kardashian could become the next First Lady as hubby, singer Kanye West, submits papers to run for US president.

I mean, there just aren’t the words.

This is a scary time because, let’s face it, who would have anticipated that Trump would have taken office? But he did, so anything is possible. But Kanye West?

I’m sure Kim’s recent move into law has something to do with the couple’s long-term plan to take up residence at the White House but a Kardashian in the most powerful house in the world is a scary prospect.

I beg US citizens not to vote Kanye in for a laugh or assume that he won’t get enough votes because, well, look where we are now?

Babies are blank canvasses ready for new experiences

When you have a baby you experience a lot of new firsts.

Essentially when babies are born they are blank canvasses.

As parents you are their sole source of information and experiences and it’s such a responsibility, as well as an honour.

Sometimes I’m fascinated watching Harley experience everything for the first time, like the first time she recognised herself in a mirror she was just in awe and her face lit up like a Christmas tree.

She’s had a couple of new firsts this week also – she’s not quite six months yet but we’ve started the process of slowly weaning her.

She’s been ready for a while but I didn’t want to do it too early so I’ve been getting her gradually ready by giving her some rice milk and a little bit of porridge.

This week I tried her with some mango and avocado and you should have seen her face.

She didn’t know what to make of either and the mango clearly left a sharp taste as she pulled the most unusual screwed-up face like I had given her a whole lemon, bless her.

She gagged quite a bit on the avocado and you’ve never seen me move so quick.

I thought she was choking so I put my hands in her mouth to retrieve it which made her gag even more.

But weaning is definitely a two-way approach so we’re getting there together…slowly.

I have no idea how we got here so quickly – how is she nearly half a year old already?

We also had our first family trip to Marwell Zoo which was so lovely and so needed – a proper day out.

Obviously Harley had no idea what she was looking at but Matt and I loved it.

We did the obligatory parent-baby thing and measured her against the giraffe poster which I’ve seen so many other parents do with their bubba.

We will measure her again as she gets older.

Harley loved the tropical garden observatory the most because she could touch and feel the trees hanging over.

It was such a wonderful day and all three of us were exhausted by the time we got in.

Why weren’t masks enforced as soon as virus emerged?

How do you feel about the prospect of having to wear a mask in the shops as of next week?

It’s a strange one isn’t it, because just as lockdown eases and some sense of normality returns we’re told we have to cover up in shops.

I get it but I wonder why this wasn’t enforced during the height of the pandemic when it may have made a much bigger difference.

Everyone talks about the ‘new normal’ and I guess wearing a face mask shopping, even if you nip down to the corner shop is part of that.

But I think it’s a strange move by the government now, when it could have been enforced a lot earlier. I imagine Amazon are going to be getting even busier now!
