What great news! The government is throwing more money at the Madeleine McCann case. I’m totally convinced that after all these years, all the hours and all the money invested so far – £11.6m and counting – that this latest £150K will finally make the difference and bring Maddie home.
Oh hang on – no I don’t. A few officers will fly off to Portugal and after a few days return again with absolutely nothing.
There are rarely any new witnesses or new forensic evidence. All you ever see are a few photofits of odd-looking ‘suspects’ who were apparently seen in the area.
So what do they actually do? How many holidays to the Algarve do they want?
No other missing person’s case has had this amount of money spent on it.
Yes, Maddie is as important as any other missing child, but no-one else has had this amount of publicity or police help and money spent on it.
I believe the government involvement in this case is unprecedented. Whereas other cases such as Ben Needham have had very little in comparison.
I think if Maddie was born to parents living on benefits in Omega House, Somers Town, not only would the parents probably have been charged with neglect and locked up but there’s no way the police investigation would have been on this scale.
And I’m sure the media would have hung the couple out to dry a long time ago.
And the thing is, I think Kate McCann has been obstructive to the investigation from the start.
In September 2007, she apparently refused to answer 48 questions put to her by the Portuguese police. But who on earth wants to make the investigation into their missing child harder?
Don’t get your knickers in a twist over an M&S display
The M&S window display has got the feminists raging. Apparently, it’s sexist.
The display shows mannequins of men in suits with the slogan ‘dress to impress’ and of women in underwear with the slogan ‘fancy little knickers’.
Many were asking why there was no window with men in underwear with the slogan ‘fancy little boxers’.
Well, it’s pretty simple: men’s boxers aren’t fancy – well none that I’ve ever worn anyway.
Women have whole shop floors and even shops dedicated to underwear whereas men will have a couple of shelves at the back of a store.
There’s no need to feel so much outrage.
You chance the weather when you book a holiday…
There’s been a disaster for holiday-makers planning trips to Lapland at the moment – there’s no snow. And Lapland doesn’t work without it…
People have been raging at the travel agents about it. I can understand people’s frustrations.
Jumping on a sled and being pulled along a Tarmac road by a load of huskies, bumping into potholes hasn’t quite got the same appeal as a snow-overed trail among some fir trees, has it?
But it’s hardly the travel agents’ fault. They don’t decide what the weather is going to be like!
It’s like booking a week in Spain and it pouring with rain all week so you write a strongly-worded e-mail to customer service. How stupid.
