A space to listen and receive support

THE start of a new year is often a time when people look back to the year that has just passed and look forward to what lies ahead, considering their hopes and dreams.

THE start of a new year is often a time when people look back to the year that has just passed and look forward to what lies ahead, considering their hopes and dreams.

But if you have suffered any kind of loss, for example the death of someone you love or a family breakdown, a new year can also heighten your feelings of grief and pain.

At this time, many of us in Gosport are feeling the deep sadness and grief of losing someone we love.

It doesn’t just ‘go away’ - for me personally it built up over time until I talked about it.

At these times, it can help to have a safe place to drop in for a cuppa, a nice cake and a chat with others who are in a similar place.

And that’s why we offer Cuppa & Company once a month at St Mary’s Parish Centre, Green Road, Alverstoke.

It’s a space for those who have been bereaved to come together for a cuppa, cake and a chat.

For some it is a space to make new friends, for others it’s somewhere they can come to just listen to others and receive support through that. It’s open to all.

There’s no need to book, just turn up. We’d love to welcome you.

Our next Cuppa & Company is on Tuesday 26 January at 2pm; and it meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month.

Additionally I would like to invite you to sponsor a candle for £2 in memory of someone you love who has died.

That candle will be lit as part of our special Candlemas celebrations at St Mary’s on Sunday, January 31.

Candlemas is a time when we remember how Jesus came to be a light to shine in even the darkest situations.

The name of the person for whom the candle is for will also be added to the Candlemas Book of Remembrance which remains open in the church throughout the year.
