Organisers expect charity day success

CYCLISTS are saddling up for a big annual bike event.

The Harvest Home pub is hosting the annual Denmead Cycle Ride tomorrow from 10am until 11pm, and promises a fun day out for all the family.

This year’s event champions are Second Chance, a charity that gets disadvantaged young people into the fishing industry; and the Hambledon and Denmead Welfare and Educational Trust.

The pub’s assistant manager Chrissie Hicks, 54, said: ‘There will be three routes – 10 miles, 20 miles and 35 miles, all of which can be done at your own pace.

‘Last year we even had someone on a unicycle, which was great to see.

‘We also have face painting, ice cream, a raffle, an auction and a display of classic cars and motorbikes in the front car park. ‘Last year we managed to raise over £8,000, a lot of which was down to the very lovely companies which kindly donate to the event.

‘That being said, we are hoping to do even better this time around.’
