Demonstrations like it have taken place worldwide since 46-year-old George Floyd died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the USA on Monday, May 25.

Since then police officer Derek Chauvin, who kept his knee on Mr Floyd’s neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds according to a criminal complaint, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Three other officers at the scene who were previously uncharged now face counts of aiding and abetting murder.

To mark yesterday’s well-attended protest in Guildhall Square, we’ve compiled eight striking images from the event taken by our photographer Habibur Rahman – recognising the number of whole minutes Mr Floyd was forcefully restrained, even after tragically losing consciousness.
