Alan Priddy puts would-be adventurers through their paces

SAILORS will be put through their paces this morning as they seek to clinch places on the powerboat team hoping to bring a new world record back to the Solent.

Portsmouth ocean racing legend Alan Priddy is spearheading a bold bid to race around the world in a state-of-the-art vessel from Gibraltar next month in the fastest time. His Team Britannia outfit need to do it in 60 days to break the record.

And ahead of the big occasion, he needs to decide who will be the 11 crew members joining him onboard that will help command the voyage.

Budding crew members will take in a series of training exercises on land and on the water at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton this morning in the hope of securing a spot.
