Aldi in Havant celebrates new home with Olympic star

AN OLYMPIC silver medallist has opened an Aldi superstore in Havant – as the store moves by a few hundred meters.

Frances Houghton, who is part of the Team GB rowing team, cut the red ribbon to open the store in Central Retail Park, Park Way on Thursday March 5.

A store had been located in unit 4-5 in the retail park – but it has now moved to unit 6.

The Central Retail Park store will have 36 members of staff working across the branch.

The Olympic star s aid: ‘It’s been an honour to be a part of Aldi’s store opening.

‘I’ve had a great time talking to both the adults and children of Havant about healthy eating and my experience of the Olympics.’

As part of Aldi’s Get Set to Eat Fresh campaign, the rower gave away free bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s Super 6 range to the first 30 customers in the queue.

Store manager Stephen Stratford, said: ‘It’s been a fantastic morning here at our grand opening.

‘It was lovely to meet our new customers and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks.

‘I’d also like to say a big thank you to the wonderful Frances Houghton for being a part of our celebrations.’

During its opening week, the store will be offering a selection of Fairtrade floral bouquets in partnership with the Fairtrade Foundation.

Aldi is the UK’s fifth largest supermarket with over 874 stores and 33,000 employees.
