Argentina legend Diego Maradona has died aged 60

Footballing legend Diego Maradona has died at the age of 60.

The Argentinian Football Association have announced his death.

Maradona both played for and managed the Argentina national side.

He famously scored the ‘hand of god’ goal against England in the 1986 World Cup, later going on to win the tournament.

During his playing career he played for the likes of Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli, Sevilla and Newell’s Old Boys.

Former Portsmouth owner Sulaiman Al Fahim once suggested Diego Maradona as a possible ‘global ambassador’ for the Fratton Park side, but he remained with the Argentina national side.

Tributes have come pouring in from around the sporting world.

Marcus Rashford tweeted: ‘Legendary’ along with a broken-heart emoji.

Gary Lineker added: ‘By some disgtance the best player of my generation and arguably the greatest of all time. After a blessed but troubled life hopefully he’ll finally find some comfort.’

MotoGP’s official account tweeted: ‘A true sporting giant and one of the greatest footballers of any generation. The MotoGP family sends its sincere condolences to his family and friends.’
