Artists raising funds for Emsworth Community Centre will put their annual show online

LOCKDOWN didn’t stop artists from working hard at their craft - so an Emsworth group is proving the show must go on for its annual exhibition.

For more than 30 years, the Emsworth Artists have staged their summer exhibition to raise money for Emsworth Community Centre, so this year they have decided to move their works to an online exhibition.

From August 15 until September 5, a variety of paintings, sculptures, ceramics and more will be up for sale online as part of the Emsworth Artists’ Lockdown Exhibition.

Over the 33 years since the first exhibition in the community centre, more and more crafts have been displayed by the artists - now including digital art, photography and wickerwork among the more classic disciplines.

The artists are a group of professional, semi professional and highly talented amateurs who all live within a two-mile radius of Emsworth town centre.

Chairman Marian Forster said: ‘The purpose of the Emsworth Artists’ annual exhibition was always to raise funds for the community centre. and over the years this has amounted to well over £30,000.

‘Although this year we certainly won’t be able to match our usual annual donation we are asking individual artists who sell works via our online exhibition to voluntarily donate a percentage of their sales to the community association thus enabling us to assist the centre at this difficult time.’

Each artist can submit up to five exhibits and will have a page dedicated to their work with all the details necessary to purchase, with visitors able to contact artists directly to purchase works, and each day at the moment more creations are being added to the line up.

Marian added: ‘We will miss the pleasure of inviting many people to our private view and visiting the community centre for the exhibition but staying safe is paramount.

‘We can only hope that next year we can once again extend a real and warm welcome to everyone.’

Visit emsworthartists.org.uk between August 15 and September 5 to view the artwork under the ‘exhibition’ tab.
