Beauty manager Aimee Yates, from Pixies Hair Salon in Stubbington Green, won the honour from the Good Salon Guide, an independent, nationwide scheme for assessing professional standards and services within the hairdressing and beauty industries.

Good Salon Guide managing director Gareth Penn presented her with the accolade at the salon where she has worked since it opened in 2019.

Aimee said she was both ‘thrilled and stunned’ to get the award for doing a job which she loves.

She took the first place in the competition which was decided by public vote.

The 26-year-old said: ‘I have been working in the industry for nine years and loved every minute.

‘I treat all my customers like friends and I think they really appreciate that. We always have a good chat and they are able to relax.

‘The salon has a lovely atmosphere so a visit here is always a treat.’

Many of Aimee’s clients seek her out as a result of seeing her stunning nail art on social media platforms and Aimee admits she has a real passion for nails.

The salon is owned and run by Katie Cox.

She said: ‘Aimee is a brilliant therapist but her artistic talent really shines through in her nail work which is outstanding.

‘To win this award after such a tough time with lockdowns is such a boost for the business and every member of the team.’

While the Good Salon Guide Nation’s Favourite Hairdresser competition launched three years ago, this is the first year the contest has been thrown open to beauty therapists working in Good Salon Guide recognised salons.

Gareth said: ‘The success of the competition took us by surprise. Since we first started it we have seen interest grow with thousands of delighted clients voting for their favourites.

‘We decided that it made sense to open the competition to our beauty salons and, this year, we have had an overwhelming response.

‘Beauty therapists play a very special role in the lives of their clients and the comments we have received show the high regard in which they are held.’
