Gandhi Indian Takeaway in Anjou Crescent has been putting on a fundraising night for many years as owner Abu-Suyeb Tanzam aims to give something back to charity and the community.

Fareham’s mayor, Pamela Bryant, will kick off the night of spice by cooking in the kitchen before launching the charity night at 5pm on Monday, April 20.

Each year, proceeds from the charity night are split between Cancer Research UK and the mayor’s charities, which this year are Fareport Talking News, 1350 (Fareham and District) Squadron Air Training Corps and Rowans Hospice.

Last year’s event saw £1,250 raised for Cancer Research UK and charities chosen by Susan Bayford, previous mayor of Fareham – Abby's Heroes, Acts of Kindness Solent and Royal Naval Benevolent Trust.

Mr Tanzam always holds his charity night on the closest Monday to April 19, which is a special date as the business was opened on April 19, 1989.

He said other takeaways and restaurants across the country have been getting in touch after seeing the amount he has raised for charity to ask for tips on how they can do the same.
