Community workshop MAKE Gosport was designed by entrepreneur Paul Cobb, to offer a range of tools, equipment and resources to members.

Paul, who was inspired by makerspaces around the world, said: ‘There isn’t anything like it locally. A makerspace is a physical place where a community of people come to explore and learn from each other and create awesome things.

‘A big part of this for me is forming a community, members can come and go as they please and do their own projects but what I want to see is people coming together, learning together and from each other.’

The project was made possible by a crowdfunding campaign which began in December 2019 and raised £12,000 to secure the building at Unit 5 Quay Lane, Gosport.

On Friday, August 28, they held a launch barbecue for crowdfunder supporters, whilst Sunday, August 30, offered the public an opportunity to look inside and see what was on offer.

Visitor Grace Blagden said: ‘Amazing space, really well equipped. Can’t wait to come back as a member.’

Another interested guest, Emma Baker, said: ‘I am so impressed with this. The space has been created really well. I will be spending a lot of time here!’

MAKE Gosport is run on a membership basis but will also offer courses to non-members. Members must be over 16 but there are plans for events for younger creative people to join in.
