Concerns for missing Portsmouth man, 41, who can only 'nod or shake head' to communicate

POLICE have launched a public appeal to help find a Portsmouth man with ‘severe learning difficulties’ who has suddenly vanished - leaving his family worried.

Barry Jones, 41, who can only communicate by ‘nodding or shaking his head’ was last seen near to the Esso garage on Milton Road, Fratton, at approximately 2pm on Monday.

Officers believe there was also a potential sighting at KFC in the Pompey Centre, Fratton, between 6pm and 6.30pm.

‘His family and carers are understandably concerned for his welfare and we are now turning to you to help us locate him,’ a police statement said.

‘Barry has severe learning difficulties including non-verbal autism and can only communicate by nodding or shaking his head.

‘He doesn’t like the dark and we believe he may have found somewhere to sleep outdoors so please can we ask you to keep an eye out for Barry and also check your gardens.’

Barry is described as being around 5ft tall, balding, of skinny build, receding side hair.

He was last seen wearing a black rain coat (potentially SuperDry), a white T-shirt and black tracksuit bottoms with flecks of grey, light blue tennis shoes and carrying four blue bags potentially containing sweets and/or chocolate.
