Contaminated blood victim from Portchester to mark against changes to pay

Jackie Britton, 52, had a transfusion 32 years ago, during childbirth, and was diagnosed with hepatitis C in June 2011, due to this blood.

She receives an annual payment from the government as well as free prescriptions and other discretionary payments.

But a reform in the money she and others receive, will see her lose hundreds of pounds.

Jackie, from Portchester, said: ‘We were invited to speak to the department of health about what we wanted from the changes to payments.

‘But they have ignored what we wanted. The annual payment will be increased slightly but will remain fixed whereas at the moment is changes with the cost of living.

‘We will have to pay for prescriptions and payments like winter fuel allowance will not be available.’

She added: ‘I will be going to London to march against these reforms and show support for the whole community who is affected by this.’

Fareham MP Suella Fernandes will be taking part in the debate in the House of Commons on Tuesday.
