ONLINE pet awards will see animal companions being recognised with prizes as an awards ceremony celebrating Portsmouth dogs has been postponed.

Due to be held next month at the Marriott Hotel, the Pawsmouth Dog Awards ceremony has been postponed until Sunday, November 29 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Founder Mary Burgess said: ‘I had to take the difficult decision to postpone the awards until later in the year with the hope that the coronavirus pandemic will be behind us.

‘I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Marriott Hotel for accommodating the new date at the end of November. Rest assured the awards will go ahead as planned with even more exciting additions.

‘I’d also like to thank The News and our other sponsors for supporting us through this including our major sponsor Agria Pet Insurance.’

There is more fun to be had in the meantime though, as Pet Connect UK will run some online pet awards.

More details will be announced on their Facebook page, where Mary will also be sharing handy tips and guidelines on keeping pets entertained during self-isolation and how pets can improve mental wellbeing.
