Coronavirus: Removal firms told to halt house moves unless move already started

REMOVAL companies for homeowners have been urged to halt any moves that have not yet started following the coronavirus pandemic.

The British Association of Removers (BAR) has responded to questions over what should happen with any moves that are underway or due to start following the government’s lockdown.

The national trade body has said only house moves that are underway can be completed by removals firms.

‘The member should only complete any moves that are underway and immediately cancel or postpone any move that has not yet started,’ a statement on its website read.

‘It is evident that our collective and absolute priority now must be on ensuring the safety of the staff and customers of our members, and of course their respective families, and so all parties must now make every immediate effort to remove the risk for mover and consumer alike at the very earliest opportunity.’

The statement admitted more ‘answers’ would be needed over the coming days before adding: ‘It is imperative that we react now to that very explicit instruction from the prime minister and we strongly encourage everyone to comply with the instructions and the subsequent recommendation made by the BAR, and to keep safe and well.’
