Crookhorn takeaway destroyed after fire in fish fryer

A FIRE has destroyed a Chinese and fish and chip takeaway shop.

Firefighters from six stations were called to the Dragon Inn in Purbrook Chase Precinct, Crookhorn this morning after a fire started in a fish fryer.

The flats above the takeaway had to be evacuated but no damage or injuries were reported.

A spokeswoman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Firefighters from Cosham, Havant, Waterlooville, Southsea and Portchester were mobilised at 11.09am to a takeaway restaurant on Purbrook Chase Precinct.

‘There was a fire in a fish fryer.

‘There were flats above the shop which were all evacuated.

‘The fire was extinguished using six breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, two dry powder extinguishers, a delta prima branch, tactical ventilation, and an aerial ladder platform for observation purposes.

‘The flats were unaffected by fire and smoke, and the stop message came in at 12.52pm.’
