The collision involved a silver Ford Focus and a black Kia Sportage - both travelling southbound on to Hayling Island - and a white Tesla Model Y which was travelling north off of the Island.

Serious injuries were caused to the driver of the Kia and the three occupants of the Ford Focus. “Sadly the driver of the Ford, Clive Fitz from Hayling Island, has since passed away,” police said.

His family have now paid the following tribute to him: “A fighter pilot, school master, husband for over 50 years, father of four boys, sports crazy, chatterbox, willing and able to engage anyone with friendly banter.

“A decent man with good morals and a kind soul, loved by many and very sadly missed.”

Police added: “As part of our ongoing investigation, we would like to speak to any witnesses, and particularly those who may have dash cam footage of any of the vehicles prior to the collision or of the actual collision itself.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference 44260359349.
