Fire crews called to Portsmouth home after blaze erupts in bedroom

FIRE crews from across the city were scrambled to tackle a bedroom blaze in Portsmouth this evening.

More than 20 firefighters, from across Southsea, Cosham and Portchester, attended the incident in St Mary’s Road, Kingston.

The blaze was reported to have started inside a first-floor bedroom of a terraced house, opposite Guildford Road, at 7.17pm.

Two teams from Southsea fire station, supported by a pair of crews from Cosham and a command vehicle from Portchester, were called in.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatuses entered the home and used a hose reel to beat back the flames. Two water jets were also used to help extinguish the blaze.

The fire was quickly brought under control by officers, who had also closed St Mary’s Road and surrounding streets to traffic during the operation.

There were no reported injuries. A spokeswoman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said emergency teams were stood down at 8.13pm.
