Fire crews called to blaze in first floor flat's utility room in Denmead

FIRE crews have spent more than two hours tackling a blaze in a first floor flat in Denmead.

Fire fighters from Cosham, Havant, and Emsworth stations were called out to Tiller Court, in Tiller Road, at 5.30pm on Wednesday.

The fire is believed to have started in the utility room of a first floor flat, which suffered fire damage and water damage from a melted pipe, according to fire fighter Ben Holt.

The crew manager of Havant fire station said: ‘There was no one in at the time.

‘We believe the fire started in the utility room, it looked like it was due to some kind of equipment fault.

‘There was fire damage to that flat, and smoke damage to surrounding flats.’

The flat’s occupants were not at home during the incident, according to crew manager Holt.

More than six residents who were in the block had evacuated the building by the time the fire crews arrived.

An ambulance attended the scene as precaution, with no one requiring medical assistance.
