Fire crews have been called out to a first floor fire in a block of apartments in Denmead.

‘We believe the fire started in the utility room, it looked like it was due to some kind of equipment fault.

‘There was fire damage to that flat, and smoke damage to surrounding flats.’

The flat’s occupants were not at home during the incident, according to crew manager Holt.

More than six residents who were in the block had evacuated the building by the time the fire crews arrived.

An ambulance attended the scene as precaution, with no one requiring medical assistance.
