Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service was less than impressed after a crew from Havant were forced to intervene and extinguish the blaze in Barncroft Way which erupted at 7.09pm this evening.

Two fire engines were needed to bring the fire under control by 7.30pm.

No-one was injured or needed treatment.

But Hampshire Fire Control, the official Twitter account for the county’s fire service, made its feelings known.

‘Two crews were called to deal with a garden bonfire which had spread out of control and damaged a garden shed, one hose reel was used,’ the post said.

In a swipe at the homeowners, the message then added: ‘If you must have a bonfire please make sure you handle it safely.’

Watch manager Scott McCall said the shed was ‘burnt’ but not ruined.
