Firefighters tackle blaze at horse stables in Warsash

FIRE crews were scrambled to tackle a blaze at a secluded stables.

The incident ignited in a field behind Little Abshot Road, Warsash, last night.

Crews from Fareham and Hightown stations were mobilised to tackle the fire, which had began in the stables and was threatening to spread.

Using hose reels, fire crews managed to quell the flames and prevent it from spreading into woods near the stables.

They extinguished smaller ‘spot fires’ from embers that had drifted about 300ft away from the main blaze.

Officers also helped to tend to a number of horses, who had been removed from the stables during the incident.

Station manager Karl Manners, who was tactical advisor at the incident, said: ‘The horses were released from the stables by a member of the public.

‘Working with our animal rescue advisor we checked the welfare of the horse, repaired and put fencing to prevent the horses from entering dangerous areas. We give them water to drink and contacted the owner.’

None of the animals were reported to have been injured during the blaze.
