After six months’ break due to the pandemic, volunteers from Cats Protection’s Gosport Town Branch are returning to the High Street market with all sorts of goods for cat lovers.

The team of volunteers will host their stall at the market from 8am to 4pm on Saturday, April 17.

Heather Wood, fundraising events co-ordinator, said: ‘Our volunteers are looking forward to coming out of Covid-enforced hibernation and hoping for a more straightforward year of events than last!

‘We adapted really well to online fundraising and even socially distanced cat rehoming but we can’t wait to see our brilliant supporters once again outside in the fresh air. There’s nothing like a proper chat and a real smile.’

Volunteers are excited to return to the market, where they will operate in a Covid-safe way, and will have plenty of merchandise for sale including the popular handmade catnip mice.

Heather added: ‘As you’d expect, we’re all cat-lovers and have a lot of experience looking after cats of all ages, from kittenhood through to their geriatric years. If you’d like to talk cat, we’d love to meet you!

‘As well as sharing our own knowledge we can signpost people to vet-approved information and advice including details of the neutering vouchers we have available for cats belonging to anyone on a low income or in receipt of benefits.’

Proceeds from everything sold at the stall will go towards helping local cats in need such as Marley, a tabby three-year-old who was taken into care when his owner had to move into a care home.

The friendly moggy has lived with dogs before so it is likely he may be able to again. He would also be best-suited to a home with outdoor space where he can explore and enjoy lying in the sun.

The Branch’s volunteers are also pleased to take donations of food for the cats in their care via the stall.
