Keen gym-goer Ronnie Squibb has run 50 miles throughout January to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK while unable to keep fit in his usual way.

Ronnie has managed to raise more than £1,000 so far, and after exceeding his goal he has decided to take on an extra 10-mile run – while wearing women’s clothing.

Ronnie, 36, said: ‘With everything that has been going on I wanted to turn a negative into a positive. The gym has been closed and I normally go about four or five times a week, I’m not a runner, I lift weights but I decided to give running a go.

‘I thought I would choose a charity and raise some money while I’m keeping active. Prostate cancer is close to home, I have family members in Kent who have suffered due to this illness.’

He added: ‘When I got to around £900 I said that if I reached £1,000 I would do an extra 10-mile run as a thank you for everyone’s support.

‘This led to someone mentioning that I should also do it dressed in women’s clothing. As everyone had been so supportive, I thought, why not, if that’s what they want it’s the least I could do.’

A special outfit planned for the extra run on February 6 is being kept secret by the hardworking fundraiser.

Ronnie has been surprised by how generous his supporters have been after smashing his £150 target, and is pleased to be able to give this amount to Prostate Cancer UK.

Ronnie said: ‘A lot of people are out of work and I wasn’t sure I’d get people wanting to donate.

‘Everyone has been very generous and I’m really grateful. It was hard going at first but the more people were donating the more I was pushing myself.

‘It was great motivation knowing that I was raising more and more money for such a great cause.’

Proud wife Dana added: ‘Running has kept him going throughout lockdown. I’m extremely proud of him and his dedication.’
