Havant mum moved to tears after seven-year-old draws rainbows for their neighbours

Seven-year-old Maddison Moore from Havant wanted to do something to cheer up all her neighbours, especially the elderly residents who are unable to leave their homes at the moment.

Inspired by the Chase the Rainbow Facebook campaign and a decoration belonging to her mum Kim, Maddison decided to draw a rainbow heart with the phrase ‘everyone wants happiness, no one wants pain. But you can’t have a rainbow without a little rain’.

The keen artist took a trip with her dad Darren around School Lane where they live, posting the creations through their neighbour’s doors, asking if they would display her artwork in their windows to spread some joy.

Kim was walking home from her job in the office at Fairfield Infant School when she was brought to tears by seeing all the neighbours proudly displaying the pictures.

‘I burst into tears when I walked home and saw them all in people’s windows,’ Kim told The News.

‘I know it’s only a little thing, but at the moment a little thing goes a long way.’

Since Maddison’s kind act, neighbours have waved out of their windows and made some really nice comments - but it’s not out of the ordinary for the thoughtful Bosmere Junior School pupil.

Kim said: ‘She’s a really thoughtful, caring child. It’s not something that unusual for her, she’s very thoughtful about others. I’m so proud of her.

‘It’s just a really nice, feel-good thing. I was just touched she wanted to do that and I’m so touched by the response.

‘I just thought it was so lovely because it’s touched people, it’s a way of saying we’re all in touch.’

When she’s not creating artistic masterpieces, Maddison has been adapting to life away from school pretty well and has been keeping up with some friends through Facetime.

Kim said: ‘She’s taken it all very graciously, she’s obviously missing all of her friends.’
