Hayling Helpers volunteer Caroline Thompson wanted to make the Thursday Clap for our Carers extra special this week in honour of the much-loved veteran.
Caroline called for 100 roads to join in with singing Captain Tom’s number one hit You’ll Never Walk Alone, and was overwhelmed by the way the community got together in support.

‘I have had so many photos and videos from residents that took part last night. It’s heartwarming that a small idea can grow into a huge community virtual get-together in such hard times.’
More than 40 residents in Fernhurst Close alone braved the wind and cold to show their appreciation, dancing and singing along to music booming from the speakers hooked up along the street by Dennis Stanbrook and his family.
A video was captured of the many families enjoying a moment together, even while social distancing, to enjoy the music and pay tribute to Captain Tom.
