They delivered thousands of meals, picked up hundreds of prescriptions and fetched groceries for those in need during lockdown.

And that is why the staff, volunteers and organisations that make up Hive Portsmouth are part of The News Year Honours list.

Operational director Louise Wilders said: ‘This award is a really nice end to a difficult year.

‘It has been a tough a time but the Hive and all the organisations and volunteers that work with us have been amazing.

‘I think good things have happened in 2020 as well and we shouldn’t just be focussing on al the bard. The sense of community that people have shown each other has been amazing and we really hope to keep that momentum going into 2021.

‘There is a lot of amazing community organisations in Portsmouth and I think next year everyone will be trying to get back to more business as usual. We have funding for an innovation project which will be really exciting.

‘I think most importantly, at some point, we will hopefully be able to see people face to face again, which for community support groups and organisations is vital.’
