The festival is planned to take place from June 17-20 but with this coming before step four of the road map on June 21 - where large events will be allowed - questions remain over the possibility of it taking place. However, the event could be pushed back.

Mr Johnson said the government hopes to lift all restrictions by the end of June albeit with restrictions such as social distancing and face coverings remaining.

Festival organisers, posting on social media, said: ‘Following the prime minister's statement, we're exploring our options and we'll be back with more information next week.’
