It's true... Tony Hadley's left Spandau Ballet

The 57-year-old, who has been the lead singer of the new wave group since the late 1970s, gave no reason for his sudden exit.

In a statement shared on his Facebook and Twitter pages, he said: ‘Due to circumstances beyond my control, it is with deep regret that I am required to state that I am no longer a member of the band Spandau Ballet and as such I will not be performing with the band in the future.’

As well as a long-running stint in the band on and off over the decades, Hadley has also enjoyed a successful career as a solo artist.

He is currently performing on his own and is scheduled for several gigs across the UK this year.

Spandau Ballet, who performed at the America’s Cup in Portsmouth in 2015, was formed in 1979 and through the 1980s they enjoyed huge success with classic hits like True, Gold and Only When You Leave.

The band split in 1990 but reformed nearly 20 years later in 2009, releasing a new album – Once More – and hitting the road again.

In 2014 the band – comprised of Steve Norman, John Keeble and brothers Martin and Gary Kemp – released a documentary film about their rise to fame, Soul Boys Of The Western World, and in the same year released a greatest hits album.

Spandau Ballet embarked on a world tour in 2015, and later in that year Hadley took part in reality programme I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!
