Kings Theatre to host star-studded gala featuring Boycie, Brian Conley, Lorraine Stanley and other celebs

THEATRE chiefs have revealed a star-studded line-up for a gala set to kick-start fundraising for their £3m regeneration project.

The variety bash at the Kings Theatre in Albert Road, Southsea, on Sunday, March 22 will help fund a refurbishment also comprising a new restaurant and a rooftop bar.

It comes after venue CEO, Paul Woolf, confirmed a multi-million pound loan for the scheme from Portsmouth City Council last week.

West End star Brian Conley will headline the event, with appearances from Eastenders' Lorraine Stanley, Ben Ofoedu of Phats & Small and Only Fools and Horses mainstay and Kings Theatre patron John Challis, famed for his role as Boycie.

Other confirmed performers include impressionist and comedienne Hilary O'Neil, ventriloquist Max Fulham and mind reader Matt-Daniel Baker.

More acts are still to be announced, Mr Woolf said.

In a promotional video for the event, Mr Challis said: ‘I’m really excited to be part of this project.

‘It really is one of the great theatres in the land so it’s a great privilege for me.

‘I would urge you, if you enjoy classic variety, to get some tickets pronto.

'As Del Boy would say, you know it makes sense.’
