Love Island: Portsmouth girl Demi Jones saved thanks to 'bittersweet' coupling with Luke M

Demi, from Cosham, said she felt her ‘Love Island experience is finally starting’ after Luke M choose to couple up with her – but it was a ‘bittersweet’ moment.

The coupling left Shaughna, who had been vying for the affections of Luke M, single and leaving the villa.

Demi said: ‘It’s so bittersweet because I was so close to Shaughna.

‘But at the same time I’m so happy.

‘My Love Island experience is finally starting now.’

The 21-year-old has had a dramatic time in the villa, having initially coupled up with Nas Majeed – but his head was turned during a stay at Casa Amor, choosing to return with new arrival Eva.

Luke M used his coupling speech to acknowledge that Demi has been less than lucky in love during her time on the island.

He said: ‘I would like to couple up with this girl because when we talk its easy...and she never fails to make me laugh.

‘I feel she hasn’t had the best luck in the villa.

‘This is the hardest decision I have had to make yet.

‘I had to go with my heart and my gut.’

But he left his future partner guessing until the last moment.

Speaking after the coupling up, Demi told Luke M: ‘I thought you were going to go with Shaughna.’

The new couple enjoyed a first date on a tandem bike ride, ending with a picnic.

Shaughna left the villa to a round of applause, saying that while she was leaving having not found love with a man, she had found love with a new best friend – fellow islander Paige.

Before entering the villa, Demi worked as a style advisor in Mint Velvet in Gunwharf Quays.
