Gosport man, 20, arrested after police are alerted to series of shoplifting incidents in the town centre

A GOSPORT man has been arrested on suspicion of four counts of shoplifting and a public order offence.

The man, aged 20, was arrested in the town centre this morning.

Just after 9.45am, officers were called to Waitrose on Stoke Road to reports of a man acting suspiciously in the store.

Gosport Police tweeted that the arrest followed ‘great work’ from the control room, CCTV operators, and response and patrol.

At 10.06 this morning, the account tweeted: ‘The male is now on his way to Portsmouth to be booked into our B&B.’

The shoplifting incidents occurred this morning and over recent weeks.

On June 29, goods were stolen from the Stoke Road Waitrose, and from Poundland on the High Street.

Around £60 worth of goods were stolen from Poundland in Whiteley Shopping Centre on June 21, and around £90 worth of goods were stolen from the same shop on May 30.
