With his inaugural Havant jobs and apprenticeships fair around the corner, Mr Mak highlighted the vital community work done by employment advisors and work coaches in the constituency.

Mr Mak recently visited Jobcentre Plus on Elmleigh Road as part of his employment drive in the region and met Leone Hill who runs the Jobcentre, as well as members of her management team and employment advisors. He praised the work of employment advisors such as Havant resident Karen Griffiths and operations manager Lynne Grimes.

Mr Mak was also given a demonstration of the JobCentre’s vacancies database, and given a tour of the premises, meeting jobseekers and careers advisors.

Jobcentre Plus is a key partner for the jobs and apprenticeships fair, which will take place at Warblington School on Friday, February 19 from 10am-4pm.

Mr Mak said: ‘Havant Jobcentre Plus’s employment advisors do a fantastic job helping residents off benefits and into work, and make a huge contribution to our local economy and our community.

‘They are the unsung heroes who deserve recognition, because they have helped drive down joblessness in Havant by over 50 per cent since 2010.

‘Leone and her team form a key link between Havant businesses and local residents wanting to find a job, change careers, or get advice.

‘The security of a regular pay packet is the key to a brighter future. Havant Job Centre Plus and I are determined that this is available to every resident.’

Leone Hill, employer account manager for the Jobcentre Plus in Portsmouth and South East Hants, said: ‘We are fully behind Alan’s jobs and apprenticeships fair, which is not only a great idea but a fantastic event.

‘It will be an excellent opportunity for local employers and jobseekers to engage with each other, and we look forward to a busy and exciting day.’
